The Tyrrell family are proud to announce their purchase of the Stevens Glen Oak Vineyard located on Marrowbone Road, Pokolbin from Neil and Bernadette Stevens. The Tyrrell and Stevens families have worked closely together since the 1940s when second generation Tyrrell ‘Uncle Dan’ loaned Neil Stevens’ grandfather Albert the money to purchase the property. In 1992, fourth generation Bruce Tyrrell struck a deal with Neil Stevens and his father George to buy grapes from the Stevens family. The deal was sealed with a handshake. We are thrilled to announce that the Tyrrell’s 2018 Old Hillside Shiraz was just awarded a Gold Medal and the James Busby Memorial Trophy at the 2021 Hunter Valley Wine Show for the best three-year-old and older Shiraz. Tyrrell’s 3.3-hectare Old Hillside vineyard is a steep, east-facing block that features rich deep-red soil mixed with an unusually coloured purple ochre clay loam. The block covers 13.52 hectares on Marrowbone Road, of which 6.11 hectares are planted solely to Shiraz. Continuing the high recognition by some of the country’s top judges, Australian family-owned Tyrrell’s Wines has had one of its most successful years on record at the Hunter Valley Wine Show.
