Sourced locally in the Hunter Valley, the fruit for this Classic Verdelho was fortified with a nine-year-old Brandy spirit and then aged in French Oak. Extremely limited production.
Tyrrell’s reputation of fine aged fortifieds goes back to the mid 1800s and the early days of Dan Tyrrell who was regarded as having one of the best sherry palates in the country. Whilst the Hunter itself is not considered as suited to producing classic wood aged fortifieds, there were always casks of good port and muscats in the Tyrrell’s cellar, purchased or swapped with top fortified winemakers from around Australia, and then blended to produce Tyrrell’s own distinct style of fortified wines.
