2021 Mother’s Shiraz

$65.00

Mother’s vineyard is situated adjacent to fifth generation Chris and Tegan Tyrrell’s home and has always been known as Mother’s after Murray Tyrrell’s mother lived there for all of her married life.  This block was planted in 2010 with cuttings from 4 Acres, Johnno’s, and Old Patch ensuring that our best Shiraz clones are preserved.

On February 20, the fruit was handpicked and sorted in the vineyard before fermentation took place in our open top vats. After fermentation, the wine was matured in two two-year-old French oak casks for 14 months.

Mother’s shows a red fruited, savoury spice aroma typical with the vintage from this part of the Estate. A bright, pretty wine that is light to medium bodied with only a hint of oak. Lively red fruit, with a crunchy acidity that gives the wine great drinkability at this early stage of its life.

Alc. 13%
Cellaring: 3–5 years

92 Points | Gary Walsh, The Wine Front

Perfumed with spice and violet, a little earthiness, boysenberry and blue fruit. Medium bodied, cherry (maybe even a few sour ones), just picked berries, plenty of crunch, fine chalk dust tannin, quite firm and just about ripe, with a fresh almost sappy/spicy finish of good length. Really like this. So nice to drink, and ready to go too. (May 2022)
