The 2019 Special Release Pinot Noir is made from the best parcels of the vintage, which would normally go into our flagship Vat 6 blend. It includes fruit from the 4 and 8 Acres blocks, which are home to the original Pinot Noir vines on our Estate planted by Murray Tyrrell in 1971.
2019 was the 3rd strong red vintage in succession in the Hunter Valley, the continued dry conditions from previous years have produced elegant wines with great balance and freshness. The fruit was picked by hand and maturation took place in mostly older French oak barriques. The resulting wine has a medium colour density and a lifted, exotic nose of strawberries and Asian spices, with just a hint of stalk character. The palate offers a wonderful core of sweet fruit and a soft tannin profile, all balanced by a fine line of acidity. This is a food-friendly style of Pinot Noir that’s built to be enjoyed over the medium term.
