The grapes for our Hunter Valley Chardonnay were sourced from a number of sites across the Pokolbin area, each of which has a slightly different microclimate and so brings its own unique personality to the blend. The 2019 vintage was a splendid follow-up to 2018, bringing top-quality fruit across all varieties in the Hunter. A continuation of the previous year’s dry conditions meant that cropping levels were slightly lower than normal, but also helped ensure that all of the fruit was in perfect condition. The grapes were both hand and machine picked before being gently pressed in preparation for fermentation. The wine was then matured in new and older French-oak barriques, spending all of this time on yeast lees to give the palate added complexity and texture. This is a textbook modern, medium-bodied Hunter Valley Chardonnay that can be enjoyed with a variety of cuisines. The nose shows a great mixture of citrus, white stone fruit and some oak spice, and offers impressive fruit intensity and texture through the mid-palate, with just enough soft acid on the finish to balance things out.
