We sourced the grapes for our Beside Broke Road Shiraz from Heathcote in central Victoria, where the dry climate, cool nights and warm days combine to create one of the best sites for growing Shiraz in Australia. The fruit was picked in the cool of the night and transported to our Hunter Valley winery without crushing the berries, thus reducing the extraction of tannin in favour of more fruit freshness and vibrancy. The wine was matured in the Tyrrell’s barrel shed in older French oak barriques, which helped to soften the wine without adding oak flavour.
A bright, fresh wine with distinctive of regional character, it has a core of dark plum, mulberry and chocolate flavours, balanced by subtle peppery spice and flinty mineral notes. The palate has the soft, rich feel of a medium- to full-bodied Shiraz, allied with a vibrant line of fruit that helps to keep the wine lively and juicy.
