The 8 Acres vineyard was planted in 1892. It sits just below the 4 Acres vineyard beside the driveway up to the winery. The vine orientation is north–south, perpendicular to the 4 Acres vines, and the vineyard produces a different style of wine altogether. While some of the 8 Acres fruit goes into the flagship Vat 9 blend, we bottle the remainder on its own, a reflection of its outstanding pedigree. The fruit is all handpicked and sorted in the vineyard before fermentation took place in open-top vats. After fermentation, the wine is matured for 14 months in a one-year-old 2,700-litre French oak cask.
The first release from this ancient block was in 2018. The wine is bright purple with an impressive density of colour. Juicy and moreish, it’s a medium-bodied, darker-fruited style of Shiraz, with a loose-knit structure that makes it immediately approachable, while also possessing all of the elements required for a long life in the cellar.
Alcohol – 13.5%
Cellaring – 5-10 years
