We are thrilled to share that our 2019 Pokolbin Hills Semillon has just been awarded the Semillon Trophy at the 2023 National Wine Show of Australia. To celebrate, we have released an extremely limited amount this exceptional wine to purchase now, while stocks last.
The grapes for our Pokolbin Hills Semillon were sourced entirely from the Pokolbin Hills vineyard, which sits at the corner of McDonalds and Pokolbin Mountain roads on a sandy flat beside a creek. The vineyard was first planted with Semillon vines by Reg Drayton in 1970.
The fruit was hand-picked on 24 January before being lightly pressed. The free-run juice was then fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks. The wine stayed in these tanks until bottling in early July. Pokolbin Hills is not unlike the Short Flat in that its wine always exhibits an extra dimension and depth of flavour not seen in many Semillons. It shows an intense citrus core and lovely texture through the mid-palate, with a brisk acidity that gives the wine great length and tension.
