The Stevens vineyard is the southern-most of our Semillon vineyards and features a combination of light sand and red clay soils. The vineyard is dry grown with the earliest plantings being 1911.

The 2017 vintage was one of the best in recent memory and produced high quality Semillons with exceptional balance between power and elegance. Solid rains in winter and spring meant that vines had constant access to water and the warmer weather in the new year meant all of the fruit was in near perfect condition and ripeness when it was harvested. Harvested in the early hours of the morning, the fruit was lightly crushed and pressed, before a relatively cool fermentation. The wine spent minimal time on yeast lees before being bottled early to maintain its freshness. No oak fermentation or maturation.

A richer, softer incarnation of Stevens Semillon. The palate is generous and round, full of ripe citrus intensity, with the classic waxy character that aged Semillons are known for. Drinking very well at six years of age, but will evolve gracefully over the next five to ten years.

Alcohol – 11.0%
Cellaring – 5+ years

95 Points | Huon Hooke, The Real Review

"Light-ish yellow colour with a grass-hay, subtle toast, burnt-lime and straw-like/dried-herb bouquet, the palate very delicate and refined, subtle and aerial, with again a trace of dried-herb on the finish—which is appetisingly dry and pleasingly long. A touch of richness on the mid-palate is lovely. A slightly fuller, earthier style of Semillon." (Jul 2023)

95 Points | Erin Larkin, The Wine Advocate

"This 2017 Stevens Semillon is the third in a trio of 2017s before me, and to say that the best was saved until last is contentious: they're all good. But this is mouthJlling and enveloping; the fruit billows around the middle palate and streams out through the long Jnish. It is savory and rich and layered with sandalwood, wood shavings (no oak here—just a comment on the fresh smell of shaved/sanded timber), fresh ocean air, green apples, lemongrass and crushed shell. The wine is completely diherent from the others, and it's a thrill." (Dec 2022)
